For half a century, the Callion people have groaned beneath a Seccoon occupation. Its royal family taken hostage or worse, its people enslaved, and its future erased from the stars. Only one heir survived beyond the Seccoon's reach. Princess Persephone cast into exile long before she could ever wear the crown.
When the invasion came, Persephone was far from home aboard the royal yacht, halfway through her apprenticeship under her human Mentor Chuck and his oldest and most trusted friend, Frank. For fifteen years they had trained her not as a symbol, but as a survivor, teaching her warcraft, exploration, diplomacy, and the brutal and complex nuances politics of the galaxy. At twenty-five, Persephone lost her world. Five years later, in exile, amongst distant stars, she gave birth to her first daughter, Elpis, giving her hope and horror, knowing that her future would be fraught with danger.
To protect the last Callion princess and her child, Chuck took command of the royal yacht, taking on lucrative excursion contracts into the uncharted far reaches of space. The ceremonial vessel is reforged into a self-reliant warship, bristling with state of the art upgrades. Under Chuck and Frank's guidance, Persephone became a warrior of terrifying precision, but also a master explorer and commander. Drawing loyal crews, brilliant engineers, and daring scientists to her banner.
A decade after Elpis's birth, Persephone's apprenticeship ended. She claimed the ship and her destiny, for herself. Chuck and Frank departed with the reward arranged long ago by Persephone's father, the lost King of Callia. Whether he or any of the royal family yet live remains unknown. From occupied Callion space, no information escapes.
The two veterans head to the frontier of known space, founding a bar on a space station beyond the reach of Empires & Republics alike. There, amid old grudges and fragile ceasefires, their establishment becomes neutral ground for the galaxy's most powerful species: The Werewolves, The Vampires, the ancient Nasga, and Humanity itself. The emerging Human Nasga alliance threatens to fracture the delicate balance of power across the Milky Way.
Over the years, Persephone returned to the frontier between deep-space excursions, bearing new spouses, more children, and a constantly upgraded ship. Her research eventually leads her to a distant star system. Funding the journey herself, Persephone uncovered something far greater than than anything she has ever found before. Trillions upon trillions of tons of Llessurium, the rare substance upon which all faster-than-light travel depends.
Knowing the Llessurium could buy the fleets, the alliances, the armies, she would need to possibly free her people. Persephone turns once more to Chuck and Frank. Chuck provides the intelligence on the factions whose favour or enmity will decide her fate. But when Persephone asks him to join her crusade, his loyalty is torn. For Chuck has become guardian to his young grandchildren, Kelly and Ray.
The galaxy's future rests upon a knife's edge. War could erupt at any moment. Now Chuck and Frank must decide where Kelly and Ray will be safest. Left behind as the galaxy descends into war, or beside them as they join Persephone's crusade.
